The role will be working with a wonderful student who is vision impaired for 20 hours per week and will commence at the beginning of Term 1, January 2025. We would ideally like someone who has current teaching and/or Teacher Aide experience, who will fit in well with our Middle School (Years 7-10) and who has the confidence to work comfortably within this curriculum range. We would also consider someone who is new to this role but who meets the criteria outlined below. The role will require the applicant to upskill in the technology used by the student and liaise closely with the Learning Support Department, the student’s teachers, BLENNZ, and the student’s family. We are looking for someone with a lot of initiative, reliability, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to learn new skills. **Scots College is a co-educational IB World School in the Eastern suburbs of Wellington, New Zealand, and comprises three schools in one: Junior (Years 1-6), Middle (Years 7-10), and Senior (Years 11-13). For life.** Applicants should have: - Previous teaching or teacher aid experience (preferred but not essential) - A passion for young people, especially those who find learning challenging - The capacity to be patient, encouraging, and motivating - Initiative and a willingness to adapt and problem solve - The ability to manage young people - Willingness to work as part of a team - Superior communication and interpersonal skills - Good IT skills as we are an online learning, future-focussed school - A commitment to our special character and co-curricular programmes - Willing to upskill in Braille technology (support and guidance is provided by the specialist teachers) - Ability to problem-solve and "think on your feet" to adapt, explain, guide, and support a learner with low vision - Adapt teaching methods to meet the learner’s needs - Prepare and adapt resources and class materials (with support and guidance from the specialist teacher) - Communicate well with class teachers and specialist teachers to plan for adaptations in upcoming activities - Support the learner’s independence and self-advocacy - Support social integration and participation in school activities To read the job description, **click here**.
