Committee and Hearings Advisor and Community Board
2 weeks ago
At the Christchurch City Council, we are driven by our passion for creating a better future. We believe in working as one yet staying true to ourselves. Help make a positive impact on our community while enjoying a rewarding career of opportunities. Christchurch City Council, where it's possible to love what you do.
The Christchurch City Council is committed to creating a workplace that attracts, retains, and values employees from a diverse range of ethnicities, backgrounds and experiences. Christchurch benefits from a diverse community, introducing a wide range of experiences and skills that make our city better and Council decision-making more informed.
We have two opportunities available to work directly with Elected Members:
- Working in Legal and Democratic Services as one of the Committee and Hearings Advisors you will be part of a team providing end-to-end support and service to Council committees, through advisory and professional services.
- Supporting the Waihoro Spreydon Cashmere Heathcote Community Board as a Community Board Advisor, you will provide end to end Governance support and services.
Being able to build good working relationships across Council would be of benefit as you'll work closely with elected members and Council staff. You'll be able to see the big picture as there is an element of reactive work - there are many moving parts that need to be put into place so having an eye for detail would be a given. Being timeframe focused will see you use your natural intuition working to tight deadlines whilst also being agile in your approach and being able to think on your feet
For these exciting roles you will have a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality and be able to think strategically. You will be calm under pressure and be able to provide professional advice on the spot, drawing on your strong communication skills. You will also enjoy reviewing and editing complex documents, so attention to detail is a must, along with a solutions-focused, can-do attitude.
We see this as a unique opportunity where, with the support of your manager and colleagues, you can transfer your skills to become a specialist in democratic processes. While experience in a similar environment is desirable, if you can bring to the table a keen attitude, a willingness to learn and the core skills needed to thrive in this position, we encourage you to put your name into the mix.
This is your opportunity to play a part in enabling effective democratic decision-making and putting the community at the centre of local decision making by facilitating citizen and community participation.
