The University of Otago is New Zealands 2nd largest university, with over 20,000 students and 4,000 full-time equivalent staff. Otagos Department of Chemistry is the oldest Chemistry department in New Zealand (established in 1871) and teaches ca 500 full-time students.
The Department has a long-standing international reputation as a leader in research and education. There are currently 15 full-time academic staff, 16 administrative and technical staff, and 7 research staff including postdoctoral fellows within the Department. In addition, Plant & Food Research staff (a Crown Research Institute) work within the Department.
Our researchers are actively involved with New Zealands Centres for Research Excellence (CoREs): MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, Dodd-Walls Centre for Photonic and Quantum Technologies, Maurice Wilkins Centre for Molecular Biodiscovery, The Riddet Institute, and Coastal People: Southern Skies.
The role
We are seeking to appoint a full-time, permanent (confirmation path) Lecturer in Analytical Chemistry.
Applications from all areas of Analytical Chemistry are welcome. However, we particularly encourage applicants whose focus is on electrochemical sensing and/or new analytical methods that complement ongoing research within the Department of Chemistry and the Divisions of Sciences and Health Sciences.
**In this role you will**: Contribute to the research activities of the Department, including publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, attracting external funding support, and supervising research students.
Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Analytical Chemistry.
Contribute to the teaching of general Chemistry at the first-year undergraduate level.
Develop collaborations with colleagues across the University, nationally and internationally.
Contribute to the effective and efficient running of the Department and its responsibilities within the University and wider community.
Your skills and experience
**To be successful in this role, you will**:
Hold a PhD in Chemistry with a focus on Analytical Chemistry.
Have a proven research track record within the field of Analytical Chemistry with a corresponding publication record.
Have a passion for teaching and an ability to work well with students from different backgrounds.
Develop collaborative working relationships with colleagues.
Be committed to supporting the Universitys Mori, Pacific, and Sustainability strategic frameworks.
