Junior Data Analyst
**About the Role**
We are looking for a deeply curious, driven and enthusiastic **Data Analyst** to join our wider data science and machine learning team. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting our product development by extracting and communicating insights from our massive datasets within the team and beyond. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the beating heart of Halter’s digital product and get involved in a wide range of projects.
**You will be responsible for**:
- Conducting deep research into our datasets to help us understand what optimal looks like, across all domains from animal behaviour through to pasture modelling.
- Creating and maintaining tooling to help us monitor our products in the field and understand their performance.
- Responding to requests from across the business and customer base, extracting data and preparing reports.
**Who are we looking for?**:
- You are highly curious: you’re not afraid to ask questions, and are motivated by solving hard problems. You’ll need to demonstrate a very high level of problem solving and ability to think outside the box.
- You’re proactive: where appropriate, you go beyond the scope of the questions you’ve been given and investigate further, to ensure the results of your analysis are comprehensive.
- You have strong analytical and statistical skills. You’ll need to be aware of common statistical traps to avoid introducing bias into your analysis, and be able to effectively communicate the results of your analysis. We’re looking for someone to bring strong scientific rigor and accuracy to the team to ensure we get the best insights possible.
- In this role, you’ll be using SQL, Python, R and other software tools to query, analyse and visualise data. You will be fluent in these languages or be willing to learn on the job.
- You are a hard worker & a quick learner: the problems that we work on require deep knowledge of pasture-based farming and cow health and reproduction, as well as the details of our internal systems. You may not start with a background in these areas, but a proven ability to learn quickly and a hunger for learning will be essential.
- You are a highly effective collaborator and incredible teammate. You’ll be working with many people across the business, from machine learning specialists through to farmers and account managers. You’ll need to balance requests and manage expectations from multiple stakeholders, and adjust your approach and communication depending on the audience.
- You have proven experience: you have strong demonstrated experience in a data analysis role, and/or a tertiary degree in statistics or a related field.
- You have strong intuition: we are looking for someone who always considers the real-world implications of the data they are looking at. You’re able to sniff out inconsistencies in data and follow those threads to identify root causes.
- Our farmers expect us to know farming as well as they do, understand why they do what they do, and identify where they can do it better. Curiosity beyond technology and into the agricultural domain will be a strong motivation for you.
**Why our team loves working at Halter ❤️**:
- Dedicate yourself to solving real-world problems alongside an epic team in a culture designed around growth.
- A genuine and shared connection to our mission to make a difference in the world.
- The pride of joining an iconic New Zealand technology company. The excitement, risk, and reward of a high-growth technology scale-up on the global stage.
- Our ideas are truly valued, we are able to move fast, and our impact is real.
- State-of-the-art, dog-friendly office that’s been thoughtfully designed right in the heart of Auckland city. Did we mention dogs and cows?
- Healthy body, healthy mind. We’re partnered with Southern Cross Health Insurance to support your well-being.
- We offer 6 months of fully paid parental leave for primary caregivers, 4 weeks of fully paid secondary caregiver leave and many other parental benefits that support you and your family.
- Our personal growth is important. Halter offers an annual $1000 self-development budget to be used for anything that fuels personal growth.
- Our time to recharge is valued, we’re offered wellness leave and unlimited paid annual leave.
- We offer an inclusive and attractive remuneration package made up of salary, benefits and an employee stock ownership plan.
- Delicious snacks and drinks are available for your daily flow.
**Our Office First Approach**
There’s a reason you visit your friends in person, live with your family and don’t do dinners over Zoom. Humans are wired for connection. We believe a world-class, in-person office culture is the best way for high-performing teams.
Being office first is a core pillar of our culture. We believe in-person connections are key to driving your own growth, learning, impact, and building genuine long-lasting relationships. Strong relationships make it easier to disagree,
