Grid Operations Planner
At Transpower, we're committed to leading New Zealand's journey toward a net-zero carbon economy, ensuring a secure and reliable electricity system for the future.
**About the team**
The National Grid Operations Centre (NGOC) manages the operation of Transpower's grid assets to enable the safe and efficient delivery of electricity to New Zealand. This includes coordinating grid outages, identifying, analysing, and mitigating risks on the grid and when there are any events, ensuring we restore electricity supply as quickly and safely as possible.
**About the opportunity**
Based in our Auckland office, you'll join a growing national team who are playing a key role in supporting grid projects and maintenance across the country. You'll design and prepare detailed outage plans and operational documentation, while also influencing project constructability and commissioning plans, maintaining our operational databases, and driving continuous improvement.
Serving as a central point of coordination, you'll collaborate with distribution companies, service providers, engineers, and project managers—building your expertise and expanding your professional network along the way.
Over time, you'll gain the opportunity to manage real-time grid operations and, if you're looking for more flexibility, transition into a shift work environment.
**About you**
You think big picture but work comfortably in the detail.
You thrive on problem solving and putting pieces of the puzzle together to get a clear understanding of availability, time frames, and other requirements.
Naturally curious, you embrace new technology, and with our shift towards a more digital environment, you're keen to find ways to improve processes and performance for both new and existing services.
You'll be empowered to act and bring solutions to the table to ensure the decisions we make today are in the best long-term interests of Aotearoa.
Whether you're an experienced outage planner or operator, possibly working for a lines company, or have electrical experience with an interest in Transmission, we'll support your development with ongoing targeted training. If you're technically minded with logical, methodical thinking and eager to step into or retrain in electricity transmission, this is your opportunity
**To be considered, your CV and cover letter will demonstrate**:
- Current working knowledge, or a strong interest, in the electrical industry/critical infrastructure
- Well-developed relationship management and interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, to clearly articulate technical or complex issues.
**While not essential, we'd love to see**:
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- Current knowledge of Transmission assets and outage management
- An understanding of power systems
**Join us at Transpower**
