**Software Engineer**:
**Firstly, a bit about us**

Airways provides air traffic management services across 30 million square kilometres - this is one of the largest areas of airspace in the world. Our people manage this airspace by providing air traffic control, surveillance, communication, flight inspection, mapping and airspace design services. We work with government, regulatory authorities, airlines, airports and the general aviation community to ensure pilots, passengers and goods reach their destination - safely.

We are almost unique globally because we design and maintain our own air traffic management systems. That means we write and maintain the code that runs our mission and safety critical systems. That’s pretty cool but it requires a seriously strong attention to detail and systematic approach to development, while still looking to the latest enhancements through continuous improvement.

**About the role**:
As the specialist software engineer you will analyse, design, code, test, and document real-time life-critical software, which is linked to the New Zealand Oceanic Air Traffic Management system and requires functional, performance, and quality standards.

**To be successful, you will need to have**:

- Honours or master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or a numerical degree with demonstratable equivalent experience
- 1 - 10 years of experience within the software industry
- Proven trouble shooting and problem-solving ability
- Experience working in and/or a strong personal preference to work in a development environment supporting productive and efficient work on a safety-critical system
- Expertise in C, C++, Python, and equivalent languages in a UNIX environment
- A provable record of efficiently and productively producing high quality designs, code, and documentation
- Self-motivation to learn, work collaboratively and problem-solve.
- A positive, thorough, patient, trust-worthy, and cooperative personality with a good sense of humour
