**About the Role**
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced psychologist to join the Cancer Psychological & Social Support Service (CPSSS). The successful applicant will be someone who demonstrates manaakitanga and whakamana in their work with patients and their whānau. You will work alongside psychologists, social workers, oncology specialists and registrars, clinical nurse specialists, nurses, radiation therapists, and other staff working in cancer teams. The role would be undertaking assessments and providing therapy for patients and their whānau, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, post-traumatic stress disorder, body image concerns, sexuality concerns, relationship difficulties and physical symptoms. The role will primarily be outpatient focused, and does include inpatient work, community clinics and home visits.
**About the Service**
The CPSSS is a national initiative that sits within the Faster Cancer Treatment programme. The CPSSS team is based at Waikato Hospital and the service provides psychological and social support to patients who have been diagnosed with and/or are undergoing treatment for cancer. The target is patients and whānau with complex psychological and social issues associated with cancer, with a focus on health equity for Māori, people with socio-economic disadvantage, remote and rural populations and people with co-existing physical, social or mental health issues. The patients are adults from the age of 18 years.
**Mōu | About you**
Skills and experience you’ll need to be considered for the role:
- New Zealand Psychologists Board (Te Poari Kaimātai Hinengaro o Aotearoa) registration and current annual practicing certificate (or in the process of obtaining).
- Experience supporting patients with chronic health conditions is desired, but not essential. The ability to elicit and work with underlying and co-morbid mental health conditions will be of great advantage.
- An ability to work autonomously completing comprehensive clinical assessments.
- An ability to work with a wide age range of health consumers.
- A strong team focus, with excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
- A commitment to achieving excellent clinical and business outcomes based on quality service delivery and outstanding and empathetic patients care
