- ** About the Role**
The primary purpose of the role is to manage all aspects of building and built environment risk and compliance across all Northern Region campuses and sites. Speciifcally this involves overseeing a broad portfolio of related business critical activities including BWOF management, Asbestos, Fire, and Integrated Security Systems and, Emergency Preparedness.
You'll lead a team of specialists and work closely with regional and national stakeholders to ensure our facilities are safe, compliant, and future ready. Your work will directly impact the safety and wellbeing of patients, staff, and visitors, while also protecting the organisation's assets and reputation.
This role is both managerial and operational, requiring you to develop and implement systems, lead audits and risk assessments, manage budgets, and drive continuous improvement.
**About the Team/Service/ Location**
The Northern Region IIG team are focused on delivering high-impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system. Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, that ensure safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are available for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.
**About you**
You have extensive experience in building compliance, infrastructure risk management, and operational leadership. You've worked in complex, large organisations,where safety, regulatory compliance, and service excellence are tightly integrated. With a strong technical foundation, you're confident leading teams, managing diverse portfolios, and driving continuous improvement across large scale property and facility networks.
You bring a deep understanding of building systems, statutory requirements, and environmental regulations, and you're skilled at translating these into practical, effective solutions.
You're known for your ability to balance operational detail with strategic oversight, ensuring that risks are identified early, mitigated effectively, and communicated clearly to stakeholders.
You're also customer focused, highly organised, resilient under pressure, and committed to delivering safe, sustainable infrastructure that supports the health and wellbeing of communities.
As the role will require regional travel a current drivers licence is essential.
**You Will Bring**:
- Undergraduate degree in building or construction, with postgraduate qualifications in business (e.g. MBA) or equivalent experience.
- 10+years' experience in building services within large, complex organisations, with significant exposure to risk mitigation.
- Proven experience managing teams and leading complex organisational arrangements.
- Strong capability in developing and presenting high quality reports and business plans in politically sensitive environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change, influence stakeholders, and drive service excellence.
- Excellent communication skills -verbal, written, and numerical, with strong attention to detail.
- A collaborative management style and a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
- Experience working in multicultural and diverse environments, and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022.
