We are looking for people who are in the advanced stage of their Bachelors or Masters of Science degree for;
- Two (x2) fixed term Summer Freshwater Ecology Technician roles commencing mid-November 2025 until mid-February 2026.

**Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role**

As part of our regional state of the environment monitoring programmes in freshwater environments, we gather samples over the summer months to contribute to our research and monitoring needs, and we need your help. This is an annual programme and the data generated from these roles forms parts of our statutory monitoring obligations.

We have two opportunities available over the summer period for Ecology Technicians whose focus will be on **freshwater** sampling.

**Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience**
- You will be in the advanced stages of your Bachelors or Masters of Science with studies in freshwater ecology
- Data quality is key to these roles so you will understand the importance of protocols and the need for accuracy
- Be a self-starter and be able to work in remote locations and in varied conditions
- Able to navigate to remote locations using GPS and think outside the square, when needed
- Manage time and schedules to deliver on required outcomes
- Able to explain the work performed to the public
- Hold a current full NZ driver's licence
- Be fit and active

Sometimes adverse weather can affect the collection of samples and impact this programme. We are therefore seeking some flexibility to work beyond mid-February 2026 should we require additional time to complete the monitoring required by this annual programme. These roles will be based in Whakatāne.
