What to Expect
Reporting to the Sr. EHS Specialist, the EHS Specialist is responsible for influencing operations excellence, managing regulatory compliance and driving overall risk reduction, aimed at driving EHS excellence throughout the Automotive Sales, Service and Delivery (SSD) in Australia & New Zealand. The position will interface with sub-regional automotive SSD operations leadership, front-line operations staff as well as other related teams within Tesla and will drive and support continuous improvement throughout Automotive SSD. This position will develop a strategy to implement and drive EHS policies, programs and procedures across Automotive SSD operations with a balance between strategic and tactical considerations.

What You’ll Do
- Lead day-to-day EHS operations and process management in New Zealand (and support Australia).
- Develop and maintain partnerships with, and be a key advisor to leadership, EHS ambassadors, front line staff and contracting partners within Automotive SSD operations. Directly or indirectly providing the information and tools to allow staff to execute on their EHS responsibilities.
- Be a visible role model in the field and teach, train and coach business teams and support staff on fundamental EHS concepts and principles to reduce risk, and influence, inspire and empower business teams and staff to reduce risk per our Tesla EHS vision, values and principles.
- Train staff on EHS elements and influence day to day operations, complete inspections of work underway as necessary, support and lead in incidents learnings, hazard identification and emergency preparedness, and others, and drive all EHS initiatives with staff to reduce EHS risk.
- Collaborate with engineering, field operations, and other key teams on complex technical projects, and provide support and technical expertise on operations design and safe work procedures.
- Coordinate, set up, and train EHS ambassadors to embed best EHS practices in day-to-day operations, conduct workplace inspections, participate in EHS sponsored initiatives, drives continuous improvement and support emergency preparedness and response activities.
- Conduct and/or review risk assessments, job hazard analyses and provides advice on EHS improvements.
- Analyze data and report trends, develop, execute and support risk-reduction plans as well as corrective and preventative actions.
- Implement and manage the contractor safety management program and related systems and processes.
- Manage chemical safety and hazardous waste in the workplace. Analyze hazardous waste streams, disposal and regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Health or related field;
- Certifications in an EHS field of expertise, for example - CSP, CHMM, CPE, CIH, PE certifications;
- Minimum 3 years work experience as an EHS professional, preferably in vehicle service industry, automotive paint operations, warehousing, construction, or similar workplace;
- Advanced competency in controlling critical hazards including Electrical Safety, Mobile Equipment, Crane-Hoisting / Lifting, Control of Hazardous Energy, and all regulatory compliance obligations;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Must have ability to communicate and influence through all levels of the organization and with multinational personnel from a variety of cultures and backgrounds;
- Excellent intra-personal skills, team player with the ability to be proactive, creative, innovative in approaching challenges;
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills;
- Demonstrated ability to perform duties independently and remotely with mínimal supervision;
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines;
- Ability to multi-task and perform duties in a collaborative working environment;
- Ability to frequent and extended travel, up to 40%.
