**About you**
You are a Degree Qualified Engineer (preferably Chartered Engineer status), with significant and seasoned experience in ship repair /defence (preferable) or an adjacent industry (heavy maintenance/ engineering). With a strong commercial acumen, you will have proven abilities in strategic linkage of teams and functions, an inherent capability to shape culture and embed values and behaviours. A people centric relationship manager, you will have the aptitude and communication style to build dynamic working relationships with people across levels, functions, culture and geography.

**About the role**
Reporting to the General Manager - Maritime New Zealand, the **Senior Operations Manager **will play a critical role in the organisation and be responsible for all Delivery programmes across ships and shore-based support, Trade Teams and management of subcontractors, facilities and port operations.
The position will lead all operational activity across the business unit (approximately 250 staff) to safely deliver all required outcomes of the Strategic Maritime Partner in NZ.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Leadership**:Lead and model business fundamentals including, Babcock principles, strategy and objectives to ensure employees remain engaged and can embrace the business fundamentals whilst accomplishing their individual targets and objectives.
- **HSEQ Leadership**:Lead and contribute to a “Home Safe Everyday” culture through HSE leadership and participation creating an environment where employees can openly discuss HSE concerns without fear of retribution.
- **Strategy and Goals**:Review external best practice, Babcock global best practice and competitor activity to identify leading edge performance and work with team to review practices to implement improvements
- **Stakeholder Relationships**:Develop and maintain excellent relationships across internal and external stakeholders
- **Continuous Improvement**:Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to implement change initiatives and innovative business solutions that deliver productivity and efficiency benefits to Babcock and its customers.
- **Delivery of a World Class Programme**:Provide leadership to programme and production teams providing maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade activity to both Navy and commercial vessels
- Ensure best practice programme and project management controls are in place to ensure projects are delivered to time, cost and quality and risks and issues are adequately managed
- **Fleet Equipment Asset Management**:Ensure best Asset Management practice is being deployed to plan and optimise contract outputs to deliver required reliability and availability of critical equipment and meet long term sustainability objectives.
- **Facilities Operations and Maintenance**:Lead facility and site operations teams, ensuring activities meet or exceed contracted customer requirements and legislative requirements
- Lead on the deployment of Asset management principles across site operations
- Ensure a Capital Expenditure plan is developed and maintained for the operations and manage the delivery of capital projects to time cost quality.
