**Permanent Full Time**

**80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE)**

We are seeking to employ a dynamic Specialist Geriatrician with great clinical and leadership skills to join the Older Persons Health (OPH) team at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Te Matau a Maui Hawkes Bay, where we are transforming the way we care for older people. All subspecialty interests and clinics are welcome, and supported in a collegial working environment both in OPH and in the wider hospital. A focus on overall professional and personal development is the strength of our department, in a friendly, warm and informal working culture.

The position is based on the AT&R inpatient rehabilitation ward, sharing 25-35 beds with another Consultant Geriatrician. The position is available full-time; less than full time roles are also strongly supported in our department.

We have big plans for the future The Hawke's Bay health sector Clinical Service Plan has highlighted older people as a priority population, and our vision is a whole-of-patient-journey approach to delivering care. Working with the team to improve inpatient rehabilitation outcomes will be a key part of this role.

The role includes the following:

- Ward rounds and ward work in the AT&R mixed rehabilitation ward - managing patients of all ages.
- Outpatient clinics for patients over 65 (or over 55 and Maori/Pacifica).
- Community visits for patients over 65 (or over 55 and Maori/Pacifica).
- Consultations: review of inpatients referred for rehabilitation or requiring Geriatrician opinion.
- Multi-disciplinary team meetings - AT&R ward and Engage teams.
- Discussions and meetings with caregivers and whanau.
- Triaging and responding to referral letters
- Telephone advice and consultation
- Preparation of reports e.g. ACC, coroner reports
- Research and study relating to treatment of a specific patient
- Clinical advice, teaching, mentoring and support to other staff

Te Whatu Ora Hawke's Bay is accredited by the RACP for Advanced Training of Registrars in Geriatric Medicine. Ongoing development is important to us so an active role in student and junior doctor teaching programmes and education, as well as CME activities within Older Persons Health and the Department of Medicine will be an important and rewarding part of this role.

Hawke's Bay is on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The region’s population of 162,000 is spread between the twin cities of Hastings and Napier, and the surrounding countryside. Hawkes Bay is famous for a warm and sunny climate, fine wine and Art Deco architecture. It is a great place to bring up children with a number of excellent state and independent schools and modern amenities. Hawke’s Bay offers an enviable lifestyle for you and your family. Te Whatu Ora/ Health New Zealand can assist with travel and relocation expenses.

The successful applicant should have a FRACP with specialist training in geriatric medicine (or equivalent) and be registered (or registerable) as a specialist with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Successful applicants with sub-specialty interests and/or service development will be enthusiastically supported by all colleagues and executive leadership.
