Are you a risk management or quality assurance expert looking to make an impact?
We are looking for an experienced professional who can quickly step into a technical leadership role responsible for managing and improving Customs' national quality assurance system.
This is an exciting and dynamic role which works closely with senior leaders to design and implement strategically aligned risk management solutions. You will also work closely with frontline staff to ensure internal are adhered to; analysing and reporting the results to maintain quality and find opportunities for improvement.

What's involved?
The type of tasks which make up this role include (but are not limited to) managing a work programme which coordinates quality assurance practices across operational work areas, development of the end-to-end systems necessary to support quality assurance practices, monitoring systems and processes are in place and identifying and providing reporting and recommendations to Customs management with respect to risks, gaps and opportunities related to current Quality Assurance.
This role can work from either Auckland or Wellington. Flexible working is supported by Customs for a number of roles. Options regarding flexible working can be discussed with the successful applicant.
The salary range for this role is $98,403 to $125,360. Mid-point for this range is $113,773.
To be successful in this role you will
- have a strong risk management expertise; ideally experience in designing and implementing treatments in large public or private organisations
- provide leadership, direction and mentoring of staff who utilise Customs' national quality assurance system
- use data to identify trends and areas for improvement
- work collaboratively with other leaders and managers
- maintain strong and effective working relationships with Quality Assurance experts across government and the private sector
About you
- You will have a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience in risk advisory services or quality assurance
- Demonstrated understanding of risk management in the public sector
- Strong technical expertise and extensive experience in risk advisory services or quality assurance
- Ability to develop capabilities and challenge yourself; future orientated and the ability to create and articulate clear plans and strategies
- Proven track record in building and sustaining strong relationships, including providing high quality advice and influencing internal and external customers as required
- Commitment to continuous improvement and providing solutions to meet the needs of internal and external customers. Change management experience is desirable, but not essential
- Have strong problem solving, analytical and decision making skills coupled with excellent report writing and data visualisation skills
