Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role
The Cost Recovery directorate ensures that the right people pay the right price for MPI services, for example, the fee you pay for biosecurity clearance when you next cross the border.
We ensure that MPI's price and price setting mechanisms are accurate, fair, encourage good behaviours, and are well regarded by industry and across the public service.
Your team, Policy and Performance, provides expert advice on the issues that need to be thought through in deciding when and how to charge for services. Your team also works with industry to understand the impact of our prices and seeks ways to make paying the right price easier for our customers.

**Your key responsibilities will be to**:

- Lead, motivate, coach and develop the policy team
- Ensure that MPI prices are appropriately set and collected in a fair manner
- Lead legislative change from Ministerial briefing to final approval
- Manage key industry relationships
- Ensure that MPI is open and transparent about how we collect and use cost recovered funding
- Assist teams across MPI develop mechanisms to fund essential services

The role requires a strong sense of what is fair and sensible. This sense guides the team's thinking on who should pay for services, the incentives different charging mechanisms provide and how to work with industry to ensure acceptance and compliance.

- Experience leading teams or the desire and skills to move into a leadership role
- Strong business acumen and a track record of successfully engaging with senior management and industry representatives
- Analysis and facilitation skills
- Expertise in bringing people together, and steering conversations towards pragmatic solutions.
