The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) serves to advance a confident, resilient, and well-governed New Zealand. DPMC has a unique role as the trusted advisor, leader and steward of our system of executive government.
Within DPMC, Cabinet Office provides secretariat services to the Executive Council, Cabinet and Cabinet committees. It provides impartial advice to the Governor-General, Prime Minister, and other ministers on a range of constitutional, policy and procedural issues.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
The Advisor
- provides advice and support to the Deputy Secretary of the Cabinet (Constitutional and Honours) and the Senior Legal and Constitutional Advisor in relation to:

- the management of OIA and Privacy Act requests and other correspondence directed to the Cabinet Office;
- advice to Ministers on Cabinet Manual matters;
- provides advice and support to the Clerk of the Executive Council on matters relating to the Governor-General and her office;
- contributes as required to writing citations for nominees under the New Zealand Royal Honours System, arranging ceremonies of state and Cabinet Office policy projects.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring
- Experience in advisory work in the public sector together with an understanding of the processes of government
- A working knowledge of the Official Information Act and the Privacy Act
- Excellent organisation, planning and information management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- High standard of literacy and numeracy
- Ability to work with speed and accuracy
- Ability to learn, use and adapt to new computer technologies

The indicative salary range is $79,625 - $84,048 p/a (including kiwisaver contributions). Appointment will be based on skills and experience.

Normally you must be a New Zealand citizen or hold a Resident class visa. Alternatively, you must have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia with a 10 year checkable background. To find out more check your eligibility for a TOP SECRET security clearance
