The Clinical Nurse Specialist Gastrointestinal works across Te Whatu Ora-South Canterbury in both primary and secondary settings and contributes clinical expertise to service development, complex care planning and staff development.

The role reports to the Interim Hospital Operational Lead - Patient, Nursing & Midwifery and day to day works with multidisciplinary clinical teams providing nursing expertise, service development, leads clinics, quality improvement and practices contemporary models of care. Other aspects include; review of complex cases and provision of nursing expertise and leadership in the pursuit of clinical excellence and patient centered care. Therefore, there is a focus on education to develop skills and expertise across the health sector in South Canterbury and support the needs of the community. There is a component of RN specialty work in this role for the Hepatitis C portfolio.

**Success factors for role include**:

- Nursing Council of NZ, registration and current APC
- Strong clinical leadership acting as a role model to those within the profession and able to work collaboratively
- Proven clinical credibility
- Excellent clinical assessment skills and role model for contemporary clinical practice and advocate of evidence-based practice
- Relevant postgraduate qualification or be willing to work towards this qualification
- Develop and maintain Senior RN Nurse PDRP
