- 8-month development opportunity

Mō tēnei tūrangi mahi | About this role
We are seeking 2 Senior Policy Analysts to join the Office of the Chief Executive team and the Stewardship Strategy team for 8-month secondments (1 role in each team).
These are superb development opportunities where you can step up to a senior role and build on your policy development and implementation experience or step laterally and work across MfE on some interesting mahi at enterprise-scale in a supportive environment.

**There are two different opportunities available**:
**OCE - Senior Policy Analyst**: You will support our Chief Executive on strategic assessment and support for their upcoming meetings and engagements. Importantly, this role gives you a unique opportunity to connect and understand the breadth of work across the Ministry. Your ability to quickly come up to speed to understand the Chief Executive's priorities and use this knowledge to make connections and share information, will not go unnoticed.

**Strategy Stewardship - Senior Policy Analyst**: You will beinvolved in engaging in our longer-term direction setting and ensuring the Ministry steps into foresight thinking and planning. Your ability to connect our work to the latest global trends and forecasts, foster futures thinking, and work collaboratively across teams is valued in this role.
As a Senior Analyst, you will provide coordination and technical leadership for projects and have the opportunity to mentor junior members of the team - working closely with analysts to problem solve issues.
Both roles report to the Manager - OCE and Stewardship Strategy, and you will work closely with our Chief Advisor and the Director - OCE and Stewardship Strategy. Working in collaboration with our Seniors, you will develop a pan-organisation view to provide insights on organisational performance and opportunity.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
We are looking for people with policy development and analysis experience who can deliver quality written work in a fast-paced environment.
If you want to build a strong partnership with senior mentors and the chance to experience working across the organisation, look no further. This role calls for high levels of motivation along with proven relationship management skills, the ability to build credibility and trust across diverse groups and sound understanding of the end-to-end policy process within the machinery of government.
You will demonstrate superior relationship building skills, confidence and awareness of MFE's inter-agency and sectoral relationships. You should have a good political risk radar and high-level influencing skills
We will appreciate your passion to link up across all areas of MfE's work programme and your interest in furthering your skills in the Office of the Chief Executive.

**Key to your success will also be**:

- previous experience supporting and leading policy projects in a government agency
- sound understanding of the policy lifecycle and legislative processes in the machinery of government (it's a bonus if you have OCE exposure but not essential)
- proven ability to confidently communicate and engage with stakeholders at all levels across the public sector, inclusive of Ministers
- ability to develop strong partnerships and problem solve issues
- good competency in Te Ao Māori and understands kaupapa Māori concepts and the value of Mātauranga in MfE's work programme
- a collaborative approach to working with your team and across the wider OCE group to ensure our strategic priorities are delivered.
- ability to work closely with multiple stakeholders on multiple projects and maintain a strong focus on quick turnaround of quality advice and information
- the ability to take a calm and structured approach across work programs in a dynamic environment where there is a level of ambiguity

Most importantly you will be passionate about looking for realistic and effective ways of achieving environmental outcomes.
Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary Range
Salary range for this role is $101,802 - $124,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
