The Risk and Assurance function has recently moved into the Office of the CE. The Principal Advisor Assurance will report to the tier 3, Head of Assurance, and will have a strong linkage with the Head of Risk and their enterprise risk management team. This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting journey as the function focuses on uplifting the trust, credibility and value add it provides to stakeholders.
Under Head of Assurance, there is a Workplace Integrity Team and the Internal Audit and Assurance Team. The Principal Advisor Assurance will play a key role in supporting the Head of Assurance through developing a technically capable Internal Audit and Assurance team, consisting of two Senior Advisors. This is an opportunity for an experienced Assurance professional to further develop their leadership experience and deputise for the Head of Assurance from time to time when required.
**Responsibilities**:
- Provide technical and high-quality advice and complex internal audit outputs to the Head of Assurance, leadership team, managers, and staff.
- Support the Head of Assurance to provide expertise and leadership in developing, implementing, and executing enterprise-wide assurance and internal audit services.
- Provide reporting to the independent Risk and Assurance Committee of Oranga Tamariki (working with the Head of Assurance)
- Coach, mentor, peer review and provide feedback to other assurance staff in the team enabling them to perform to their maximum potential, supporting their career development and assisting the Head of Assurance to build the overall capability of the in-house internal audit and assurance team.
**Requirements**:
- An understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples’ culture
- Significant experience in assurance or audit at a senior level with proven expertise in making risk and control assessments and promoting business process improvements, conveyed through high quality reporting
- Pragmatism and a result orientated approach with an ability to undertake assurance and internal audit activities
- Strong ability to grasp complex business issues to contribute effective solutions to drive business success
- The skills to develop and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
This is an opportunity to play a key role in a function that is on the precipice of change while also gaining demonstrable experience in mentoring and developing other staff in the Internal Audit and Assurance Team.
