About the Role
This is a 9-month Fixed Term contract role where you will have the opportunity to be emerged in the end-to-end fixed asset process, working alongside experienced team members.
The Fixed Asset Assistant Accountant will be responsible for performing various fixed asset reconciliations, capitalisation activities, and maintaining financial reports, records and general ledgers.
Following a recent merger of the New Zealand and Australia accounting teams, a key part of the role will be to help align the ANZ fixed asset accounting processes, which will drive Group-wide efficiencies.
There will also be an opportunity to work on transformational projects within our business, which drive process improvement and genuinely make a positive impact.
What you’ll do
- Perform monthly reconciliations of fixed assets (fixed asset register to GL)
- Follow up on reconciling items in a timely manner, ensuring the ageing of reconciling items is kept to a minimum.
- Issue capex numbers and facilitate capex approvals.
- Capitalise assets accurately.
- Assist in calculating and recording depreciation expense and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards.
- Support in preparing and analysing fixed asset reports, providing insights into asset utilization, maintenance costs, and capital expenditure.
- Assist with the capex tracker where required.
- Assist in the preparation of year end reconciliations and audit activities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper classification, tagging, and recording of new assets.
- Help identify opportunities for process improvement and simplification.
- Ensure all accounting tasks are completed within the set timeframe and any issues addressed as they arise.
- Stay updated on relevant accounting regulations and standards related to fixed assets and ensure compliance.
- Assist in ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting projects as assigned by the Manager.
What you’ll bring
- At least 2 years of general accounting experience
- Experience engaging with stakeholders through challenging situations.
- Previous involvement in the implementation of a new accounting system or management and evolution of an existing system (desired but not mandatory)
- A genuine passion for process improvement and simplification
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with staff at any level in the organisation.
- Excellent organisational skills and a focus on accuracy and timeliness of finance outputs
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and concepts related to fixed assets.
- Working knowledge of Oracle or a similar sized ERP system would be advantageous.
- Accounting degree with CA/CPA part qualification desirable
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
