**Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role**

The role sits in the Forensic Intellectual Disability Service working within the inpatient team. The role of the care manager is to act as the clinical manager for the care recipient (under IDCC&R Act), and to be able to direct and oversee their care with appropriate consultation and input from other health workers while the care recipient is detained.

Alongside the day to day aspects of overseeing the care of the care recipient, the care manager will need to ensure the conditions in the care recipients care and rehabilitation plan are adhered to.

To liaise with identified health professionals to ensure the care and rehabilitation plan remains a living document and its content evolves consistent with the needs of the care recipient.

To work in a multidisciplinary team setting as a Care Manager, ensuring that all clinical steps necessary are taken to assist clients to achieve optimal health, well being and safety through the provision of appropriate assessment, intervention and education and to achieve positive outcomes for clients.

The Forensic Intellectual Disability Service is part of the Mental Health Addiction and Intellectual Disability Services. The service has adult, youth and community services.

The Intellectual Disability Secure Service is a dynamic and supportive workplace where autonomous practice, research, professional development is supported.

You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team of health professionals committed to the delivery of gold standard care and rehabilitation to the population we serve. The team carry a wealth of knowledge and expertise in a number of areas relevant to intellectual disability, mental health, and behaviours that challenge.

We are a progressive service committed to providing a culture of ongoing professional development for staff through regular clinical supervision, excellent professional development and a recognition programme (PDRP) for nursing, regular in service training and support towards external education.

**Moū - About you**

To be successful in this role these skills and experience are expected:

- Experienced Registered Health Professional; Registered Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Psychologist with a current practising certificate
- Experience working with Inpatient and Community Mental Health and Intellectual Disability Services
- The appointee to the position of “Care Manager” will need to have the knowledge, skills and attitude required to allow the Care Coordinator to designate them as the Care Manager under the terms of the Act for specified care recipients and proposed care recipients.
- Is comfortable operating within a complex environment, including meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders at the same time
- Have excellent communications skills both verbal and written
- Have the ability to lead meetings and client reviews
- Have a current Driver’s License
- Works well with complexity and ambiguity
- Works well under pressure - keeps a balanced perspective

The knowledge required by a Care Manager to manage the job appropriately can be seen as covering three overlapping areas.

These are:

- An understanding of the legal framework within which they operate.
- An understanding of the legal process.
- An understanding of key features of bio psycho-social variables related to Intellectual Disability and personality functioning.
