Shift Supervisor

Westland Milk Products is a well-known New Zealand end-to-end dairy manufacturer based in the beautiful South Island. We process over 700 million litres of milk a year and produce a wide range of dairy ingredients and consumer and foodservice products. We have a great opportunity for a new Supervisor in our Dryer 7 in Hokitika. Reporting directly to the Process Manager (and in turn Senior Production Manager), this is a critical front line leadership role in Westland for our people and products, ensuring the products we produce are of a world-class superior quality, and ensuring we provide our operations teams with the best tools and working environment possible in order for them to be successful.

You will be responsible for:

- leading and developing a team of operators - maximising their collective performance & capability
- creating a workplace environment conducive to success - coaching and mentoring team members to achieve improved behaviours and results, and ensuring the Standard Operating Procedures are followed at all times without deviation
- maximising plant performance, maximising yields, maximising Right First-Time product performance and achieving results in a timely manner
- supporting all operations, health & safety and quality functions within the department
- ensuring manufacturing logs are completed to required standards
- proactively capitalising on continuous improvement opportunities & risk mitigation initiatives
- understanding and driving the departmental KPI's to staff, anticipating risks and developing plans to achieve the departmental KPI's above expectations.

Preferred applicants will ideally possess:

- significant experience working in a Dairy manufacturing operations environment (ideally 5yrs+)
- the ability to lead, motivate, develop and inspire a wide range of individuals along with the ability to develop high performing and cohesive teams
- solid technical and/or process knowledge as demonstrated by past experiences, competency tests, CDM and other qualifications
- solid understanding of the key operations and a good knowledge of the importance of GMP, 5S systems etc.
- Diploma in Dairy Technology or willingness to undergo training towards this
- Great attention to detail along with exceptional problem solving, communication and relationship building skills
- a flexible and adaptable approach together with a commitment to drive quality and continuous improvement.
