**About the Role**

Our Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit (CTSU) at Auckland City Hospital is the highest volume unit in New Zealand and Australasia. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join out dedicated team of Medical, Nursing and Allied Health Professionals. The ability to cover the full range of emergency surgery is essential due to the high amount of this work for the on-call surgeon.

We provide tertiary care predominately for the Auckland and Northern region, as well as providing care for high-risk patients from across New Zealand. We are the National Heart & Lung transplant Unit and National ECMO Centre.

**About the Team/Service/ Location**

Positioned in the centre of Auckland one of the world’s most liveable cities, the Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit at Auckland City Hospital is the largest Cardiac Surgery Centre in New Zealand providing the full range of cardiothoracic surgery for both ischemic and rheumatic heart disease, aortic surgery and lung cancer surgery.

The CTSU is part of the wider Cardiovascular Directorate which is home to the National Heart and Lung Transplant Service and national ECMO centre for which it has a retrieval service.

The unit is a high-volume service which works alongside a dedicated 26 bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit to deliver approximately 1200 cardiac surgery cases per year.

**About you**
- You will have or be eligible for vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council in Cardiothoracic Surgery and ideally be a member of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
- Experience in heart and lung transplantation is desirable
