Leading Hand

**About the Role**
An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced Leading Hand to join our modern site based in Wiri, Auckland. Working alongside an existing Leading Hand, the successful applicant will provide joint supervision to an existing team of motivated Diesel Technicians (qualified and Apprentice level). This is a full time permanent position working 45 hours per week. The role would see you 50% productive, and 50% in a mentoring, leadership capacity.

Our Auckland branch is open from 7am - 9pm Monday to Friday and from 7am - 12noon on Saturday's (by appointment). It is anticipated the two Leading Hands in the service team will work a combination of dayshift (7am - 4.30pm) and afternoon shift (11.30am - 9pm). An afternoon shift allowance applies. Rostered Saturday work also attracts a premium rate.

**Key duties and responsibilities of this position include**:

- General supervision of and responsibility of workshop repairs with the aim of maximising resource availability and capability;
- Planning and scheduling service workloads to meet and exceed customer requirements;
- Leading, supporting and mentoring technicians in repair routines providing input into ongoing training and development areas;
- Monitoring and lifting productivity and efficiency output with all technicians to maximise profitability;
- Promoting safety and quality in all aspects of the workshop environment;
- Encouraging the service team to work towards achieving and exceeding customer schedules for the return of vehicles, with the focus on ‘fix right, first time'

**About You**
We are looking for a trade qualified heavy diesel mechanic, who has experience leading and motivating a service team in a supervisory capacity. Having strong technical knowledge and experience with maintaining, servicing and repairing diesel engines and heavy trucks is essential. Applicants will possess strong problem solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with the wider service and parts team. Providing top-notch customer service will come naturally to you.

**Ideal applicants will also possess the following attributes**:

- Knowledge of the heavy vehicle industry, including local competitors and service offerings;
- Knowledge and experience in Western Star, MAN, Detroit Diesel and/or Cummins, _mtu_ and Allison product lines is desirable
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate a service team and promote high standards of work;
- Commitment to offering outstanding customer service on all jobs completed;
- Practical working knowledge of the correct and safe operation of appropriate machinery, tools and equipment and a willingness to set high safety expectations for the team;
- A team player who will adhere and promote the company's values & behaviours;
- A working style that is efficient, well organised and tidy;
- Solid understanding of labour sales & costs, workshop expenses, and warranty processes
- Effective time management skills;
- Holder of a full Class 1 licence and ideally up to a Class 5 HT licence
