**ABOUT SPACE SYSTEMS AT ROCKET LAB**:
Rocket Lab's Space Systems team is responsible for every satellite and satellite component made by Rocket Lab: from complete satellites destined for missions to the Moon and Mars, to the individual components and subsystems that make up a satellite like solar panels, flight software, reaction wheels and star trackers, separation systems, radios, and more. Our Space Systems team is made up of engineers, technicians, and designers who design, create, and put together our own satellites for missions across the commercial, government, and defense sectors, or who build and assemble satellite hardware and software that supports other satellite missions.
**ABOUT THE ROLE**:
A Development Engineer in the Space Systems Propulsion team at Rocket Lab is responsible for contributing to product upkeep and development engineering work on spacecraft propulsion systems. The role requires close work with other development engineers, the production team, design engineers, analysts, and assembly technicians to achieve high quality products. Success in this role requires a strong technical and analytical background, meticulous attention to detail, exceptional problem-solving skills, experience handling and testing sensitive hardware, and excellent reading and writing ability. The Development Engineer will display a positive and approachable attitude, be motivated by tough engineering challenges, complete required work according to schedules, and provide transparency and feedback to the team.
**WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO**:
- Design specification responsibility for existing products or new developments as assigned by management to meet company requirements
- Engineering BOM responsibility and it's workflow with applicable software for new products or existing product (for components and assemblies)
- Responsible for communication of the design for manufacturing purposes including materials, GD&T and unique design specifications by using drawings and appropriately referenced information/standards
- Design verification collaborate with analysis, manufacturing, testing, and operations teams to verify that designs meet company requirements
- Responsible for product operation, lifecycle and maintenance by defining the necessary operating, maintenance, repair, calibration, and environmental care information for responsible product
**YOU'LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS**:
- A genuine passion for engineering, curious mindset, and willingness to learn
- Degree in engineering or physics and 1+ years of relevant industry experience
- Strong sense of ownership, rigorous thinking, and a desire to see projects through to completion
- Hands-on experience building or testing mechanical or electromechanical components or systems
**THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE**:
- Experience with electric propulsion testing and development, vacuum systems, high voltage, and/or particle beams
- Experience with rocket engines, fluid components such as regulators or valves, or spacecraft propulsion systems
