**C++ Software Engineer (Permanent / Full Time / Auckland)**
At Rocket Lab, our family of Electron launch vehicles and Photon spacecraft are supporting a growing number of ground-breaking missions in low Earth orbit, to the Moon, and far beyond. Right now, our team is deep in the development of Neutron, our upcoming reusable launcher. It is designed for mega constellation deployment, deep space missions, and human spaceflight.
This role is for someone who wants to see their software make a big impact on the way we explore space and use it as a platform for discovery and innovation. While your software settles into life in space, you’ll be based in our Auckland Production Complex working amongst the rockets and Photon spacecraft as they’re built. You will be collaborating with the vibrant, dedicated, and talented people who have made Rocket Lab into the global leader it is today.
**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Develop simulation and test software enabling component level and end-to-end mission validation.
- Develop tools for model-based software development.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation and tests running within a Continuous Integration framework.
- Collaborate with hardware-in-the-loop test engineers to verify and validate combined software and hardware functionality.
- Collaborate with system engineers and flight software engineers in developing requirements and architecture designs.
- Participate in peer reviews.
**Required Skills**:
- Solid understanding of networked software systems and software design patterns.
- Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities.
- Document management & software systems engineering experience.
- Familiar with agile development techniques, Git, and working with issue trackers.
**Required Education & Experience**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or demonstrated equivalent level of knowledge.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience professionally developing modern C++ software.
- Professional experience developing in a scripting language.
**Preferred Skills**
- Experience with highly reliable software systems.
- Experience with formal software standards like DO-178C, MISRA or AUTOSAR.
- Experience with requirements-driven software design.
- Experience with communication protocols.
- Experience with developing simulation software for control systems and / or physical systems such as autonomous cars, rockets and UAVs
