We are looking for a Senior Policy Analyst in our Māori Climate Action Rōpū, who connect across the MfE system to incorporate Mātauranga and Tikanga Māori in our everyday mahi.
Our team contribute to the development of strategies and policies within MfE by leading and supporting others to integrate tangata whenua views and values when developing and implementing climate change policies. We prioritise actions that support Māori communities in their long-term aspirations, well-being, and resilience, “nāku te rourou, naū te rourou, ka ora ai te iwi.” We are the spearhead, driving the formation of strong, trusted relationships between our iwi Māori partners and the wider ministry, in Māori climate action and policy.
You will support us to further advance Mātauranga Māori and Tikanga Māori into climate change policies, action and everyday practice. You will take lead and supporting roles across multiple work streams and objectives across the Ministry where you will play a pivotal role in integrating Mātauranga Māori views, knowledge, and values with a Taiao focus. Mātauranga Māori has an important role to play in successful climate action, resilience, adaption and amelioration for future generations. “Hāpaitia te ara tika pūmau ai te rangatiratanga, mō ngā uri whakatipu.”

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

**We are seeking that you**:

- Have experience leading or contributing to Māori Research, Mātauranga, Science and or iwi/hapū strategies
- Have an in depth understanding of Mātauranga Māori in alignment with Te Taiao and the ability to portray those concepts across multiple workstreams
- Can bring Te Ao Māori, tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti into your work everyday
- Have cultural capability in Māori methodology, indigenous knowledge systems and conceptual frameworks
- Fluency in Te Reo Māori would be an advantage however confidence and a willingness to learn and develop your Reo Māori would be considered
- Have the ability to think outside the box, flexibility of thought and fearless in your imaginings
- Bring your knowledge and living experience of Mātauranga Māori into to your everyday mahi
- Have experience or exposure to the machinery of government
- Can progress quality work in a fast-paced environment
- Have a strong delivery focus and are happy to roll up your sleeves to achieve your mahi
- Have a collaborative approach and appreciation for working to core values and principles
- Possess strong communication skills, written and verbal with the ability to bring others on the journey and share technical information in a way that our audience can understand.

Whānuitanga Utu ā-Tau | Salary range
Salary range for this role is $105,802 to $128,424 pa. Appointment within this range will be based on skills and experience.
