Join us on a mission to help all New Zealander's win big in a digital world. We have an amazing digital future ahead of us. Now we need people like you to help make it happen
We are looking for a passionate and energetic designer to join the Experience Design Leadership team. If you are interested in leading a team to create simple and intuitive customer experiences while bringing your expertise to our design and development phases, then this may be for you.
Design leadership is a key part of this role. A clear understanding of the business context in which design operates is important in driving better design decisions. Just as important, our design leaders need to play an active role in helping team members in their career development. This means engaging in hands-on coaching, spending one-on-one time providing guidance through specific challenges and displaying leadership and communication skills that inspire team members as they facilitate, present to, or engage with stakeholders.
**About the role.**
Becoming a UX/UI Chapter Lead in the Experience Design Domain unlocks the opportunity to shape the future of experience design at Spark. Our people leaders are tasked with building vision, purpose and clarity while setting the standard of quality we expect at Spark.
There are 4 key pillars to being a chapter lead, and they are as follows:
- **
Building Vision, Purpose, and Clarity**:
- Creating an environment that supports and provides everyday meaning for the design chapter.
- Uses customer insights to guide actions.
- Constantly scans both internal and external environments to make effective decisions and allocate resources appropriately.
- Solving problems collaboratively with peers to ensure best outcomes for the business.
- Providing clarity and trust through regular communication, ensuring the chapter can see how their individual and team effort counts.
- Collaboration with the experience design leadership team to achieve the domains objectives and key results.
- **Building a Highly Functioning Chapter**:
- Ensuring that chapter members are clear and aligned to deliver results
- Encouraging a culture of learning which builds on the craft, allowing development, innovation, and improvement opportunities.
- Embedding the right practices, mindset, and standards conducive to the best way of working.
- Building active partnerships - both within and outside of Spark - injecting fresh design thinking, thought leadership and talent.
- Building positive relationships with Tribe Leads, Product Owners and other Chapter Leads that ensures chapter members capacity / workload is optimal.
- **Facilitating Performance, Pace and Productivity**:
- Driving chapter performance and results that are aligned to business priorities.
- Ensuring high quality feedback and regular one-on-ones that raise performance and development of chapter members.
- Actively increasing visibility of great individual and chapter performance through relevant reward and recognition.
- Embedding an environment of experimentation and encourages a growth mindset
- Inspiring and leading others towards better results.
- **Fostering **an inclusive culture**:
- Role Modeling standards not only across the chapter but across Spark.
- Building on an environment of trust and transparency.
- Coaches chapter members through effective one-on-ones, feedback, and developmental conversations.
- Personally invested in the development of our people - including actively seeking opportunities elsewhere within Spark for further developing talent.
- Actively listens and responds to chapter insights identifying opportunities to foster a collaborative environment where people feel compelled to bring their best selves.
- Identifies any source of conflict and leads the chapter to respectfully resolving differences and becoming stronger.
**About you.**
You are a senior designer with strong experience in digital. People's leadership is highly desirable but not mandatory. You can demonstrate your understanding of the broader context in which design lives, the intersection of business, technical, and customer factors that allow brilliant design work to be successful.
To succeed here means knowing when to set aside design and focus on the interpersonal aspects of work. No longer is it simply about practicing your craft. You must appreciate how all the core design skills, not just those they directly practice, work together to produce a great experience.
**Requirements**:
- 5+ years' experience in digital design - people leadership desirable but not mandatory
- Strong knowledge of design process and the business impact of design
- Understanding accessibility and how to achieve it
- Strong influencing, negotiation, and communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)
- Broad knowledge of design tools, e.g., Figma (preferred)
- Strong online portfolio available for viewing
- A passion for keeping up with the latest consumer platforms, user interfaces and design s
