**Health Care Assistant (Puawai Aroha Maternity Unit) 0.7 FTE Permanent**

**Puawai Aroha Maternity Unit in Gisborne Hospital is currently looking to recruit motivated and caring Health Care Assistants to work 56**hours per fortnight (**0.7**FTE).

If you have previous experience working in a health care setting (hospital/maternity/neonatal unit /child health experience) and a ‘whatever it takes’ approach then you might be the person we are looking for to join our team. You will be working as part of the team to ensure the efficient running of the maternity unit, including maintaining a clean and well stocked unit.

**Essential requirements**:

- Able and used to taking direction and instructions from designated supervisor
- Experience working effectively in a team environment
- Proven time management and organisation skills
- Sound written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literacy and confident in use of office equipment such as photocopier
- Understands and respects patient confidentiality and privacy
- Culturally sensitive
- Has an understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
- Proven ability to remain calm in a stressful situation
- Is caring, conscientious, dependable and reliable
- A clean, tidy and professional appearance
- Flexibility and initiative
- Willingness to adapt to a changing environment
- Ability to connect with people/build relationships

**Desirable requirements**
- **NZQA CARE QUALIFICATION OR EQUIVALENT**
- Experience working with mothers and babies in a maternity, neonatal or paediatric setting
- **UNDERSTANDS BASIC PRINCIPLES OF ISOLATION**
- **UNDERSTANDING OF UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS**
- Knowledge/experience of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative requirements

This position is very active and entails lifting of a wide variety of objects and patients, working in confined spaces and spending long periods of time on your feet. It also involves considerable exposure to water, skin and domestic cleansing agents.
