Applications are sought for a Volunteer Support Officer within the Wellington District.
The role of the Volunteer Support Officer (VSO) is to ensure that brigades are capable, sustainable, and not dependent. The VSO assists volunteer brigades to meet their legislative and organisational requirements. They achieve this by advising and supporting brigades to be operationally ready and assist them to identify and manage local fire risk. They also work with brigades to ensure their resources are organised and coordinated.

**Mō tēnei tūranga - About the role**
The role’s primary focus is to provide support to all Volunteer stations within the district with:
- Operational and administrative support including monitoring operational readiness
- Fire risk management initiatives and recruitment activities
- Business planning
- Driving a “service culture” ethos
- Coordinating repair and maintenance of equipment
- Ensuring health and safety is paramount
The salary range for this role is $95,149 - $105,721 depending on your skills and experience.
**Ko tāu nā ki tēnei tūranga - What you’ll bring to the role**
- Sound interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Demonstrated ability to effectively self-manage workload
- Competency in the use of MS Office and other IT systems
- Effective communication skills both written and oral
- Some knowledge or exposure to financial management; budgeting and/or business planning
- Drivers licence essential - Heavy vehicle duty licence a bonus
**Hours and availability**:
Full time - 40 hours per week Monday to Friday. As this role supports our volunteer brigades, applicants will need to have flexibility and availability for some evening work as needed to accommodate training and support for our volunteers. There is also an on-call component of one week in three, to replenish volunteer uniform and equipment outside of normal business hours for the wider Wellington District.
