**About the opportunity**

The Safety team is an experienced and friendly team. You will develop your core policy skills by contributing to a range of policy advice as well as build on your knowledge of public sector skills such as OIA and Ministerial responses.

As we are a small Ministry, you will be given exposure right across the organisation and will work on some high priority projects in the Safety team.

You will:

- Support the development of the road safety policy
- Support legislative changeDraft responses to ministerial and departmental correspondence, and OIA requests
- Based on the work or support that may be required, this position is Wellington based only.

**What you’ll bring**

We are looking for a policy adviser to join our Safety team, with experience in central government. Although we are open to levels of experience (either Adviser 1 or Adviser 2), you will have experience managing policy projects and drafting ministerial correspondence and briefings.

You will need the following:

- Experience in policy development in a government organisation
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Good problem-solving ability
- Relationship management skills
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field is essential (eg Economics, Public Policy, Law)
- Understanding of economic frameworks would be advantageous

**Salary range**

The base salary for this position is $79,078 - $100,420 per annum (+ KiwiSaver). The salary offered will be based on skills and experience.
