In this role, you will be working between 40 and 50 hours per week. However, the actual hours of work will be negotiated with the Clinical Lead during the interview stage. You will work rostered hours to meet the requirements of the service as needed. On call may be required but is uncommon.
Anatomic Pathology Service (APS) in Mt Wellington provides services to approximately 4,000 private specialists, private surgical hospitals and general practitioners with up to 500 overall histology specimens received per day, and a further 15-20 for non-gynaecological cytology.
Of this overall volume, about 60% are skin cases and are preferentially routed to our team of dermatopathologists. The specimens cover both inflammatory and neoplastic dermatopathology, more weighted to community than inpatient case types. Certain cases naturally overlap with lymphoid, soft tissue and other areas of anatomic pathology. We regularly train other team members as future dermatopathologists, with excellent success rate thus far, in preparation for advanced certification including the European examination and the Australasian College.

APS serves the community general practice and private medical / surgical specialist anatomical pathology for about 1.8 million people. We are a component of Health New Zealand Te Toka Tumai Auckland. The greater organization provides health and disability services to more than half a million people living in central Auckland, regional services for Northland and greater Auckland, and specialist national services for the whole of New Zealand. Our main inpatient and outpatient sites are Auckland City Hospital, Greenlane Clinical Centre and Starship Children’s Hospital, located in central Auckland.
