**About the team | Ko te rōpū nei**
The multi-disciplinary Coastal Hazards Adaptation Planning (CHAP) team is collaborative, innovative, and passionate about preparing Council, communities and rūnanga for the impacts of climate change. The team are responsible for building and communicating information on climate risk, and their programme works with asset owners across Council to develop adaptation plans for public assets at risk of climate hazards.

This is a unique opportunity to guide the communication of Council's climate and adaptation initiatives, including the CHAP programme and climate risk screening and assessments. You'll work closely with scientists, Council teams, communities, and rūnanga to build trust, raise awareness, and foster meaningful conversations around climate hazards and resilience. You will:
- Translate technical climate science, hazards assessments, risk profiles and adaptation planning processes into clear, accessible and engaging public-facing materials.
- Develop and deliver innovative approaches to engage communities on climate hazards and adaptation.
- Develop educational resources tailored to diverse audiences.
- Support citizen science initiatives and interactive tools like the Council's Risk Explorer.
- Collaborate across Council teams and external stakeholders to ensure consistent, accurate messaging.
- Champion Council's position on climate change and natural hazards.

You're someone who thrives at the intersection of science, storytelling, and community. You believe that informed communities are empowered communities—and you're passionate about making climate science accessible, engaging, and actionable.
Along with your specialist knowledge, you'll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in science, communications, or a related field.
- At least 5 years' experience in climate adaptation, environmental science, natural hazards, or resilience
- Confidence in public speaking and facilitation, with a track record of leading inclusive and respectful community conversations.
- Strong interpersonal skills, enabling you to build trust and navigate sensitive topics with empathy and professionalism.
