Napier City Council has an opportunity for an experienced Sports Turf Operator to join our Sportsgrounds Team.

This versatile role offers the opportunity to work across various Napier sports grounds, with a primary focus at Park Island within the Western Sports grounds area. However, tasks will encompass all 15 sports grounds throughout the city.

As part of this role, you will oversee the day-to-day upkeep and presentation of sports grounds under your jurisdiction. Additionally, occasional assistance during scheduled events across different city areas may be required.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Carry out cricket wicket curator duties at Taradale Park and other sportsgrounds as required, to a high standard, as directed
- Attend to the pitch preparation of different levels of cricket, including club cricket and assisting with domestic and international match days
- Carry out mowing operations at Park Island using a variety of machinery
- Assist with line marking, hand mowing, sport fields mowers, tractors and implements, renovations, spraying, fertilising, watering and any other preparation, maintenance or development of sportsgrounds
- Assist with seasonal change-over of Sporting Codes
- Agrichemical spraying
- Assist with moving cricket covers and portable pitch when required
- Ensure equipment is well maintained and operating to meet requirements for a high standard of performance
- This is a multi-skilled position and the incumbent will work as directed by the Sportsgrounds Foreman and the Team Leader Sportsgrounds Operations
- Lead the team in the absence of the Sportsground Foreman and will make collective decisions with the Turf Manager and Team Leader Sportsground Operations to plan and implement turf related programs on a day to day basis
- Qualification in Sports Turf Management (Level 4) or equivalent knowledge
- Current Agrichemical Approved Handlers Certificate OR Growsafe Certificate
- Current full drivers license with ability to drive manual vehicles
- Substantial experience (at least five years) in turf management and sportsgrounds preparation, especially for cricket, rugby and football
- Knowledge of sports through experience of Cricket, Rugby and Football
- Experience in preparing cricket wickets preferred
