Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to New Zealanders.
- We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations - from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.
Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.
**About the Role**
The National Director, Digital Services and Technology, plays a pivotal role in leading Health New Zealand's digital transformation. This role is responsible for ensuring the organisation's digital services are resilient, secure, and aligned with evolving models of care and patient needs. Operating within a large and complex technology environment, the National Director oversees critical services that support clinical and business users across the health system.
A key focus of the role is to formulate and execute a digital strategy that enhances operational efficiency, improves access to and quality of care, delivers high standards of cyber security, and supports Health New Zealand's wider strategic goals. The role also leads a multi-year programme of digital enablement, embracing innovation to deliver better outcomes for patients and staff.
The National Director works in close partnership with the Hauora Māori Health group to embed Te Tiriti principles and enable equity through digital solutions. Collaboration with the Primary Care and NGO sectors, as well as the wider digital technology industry, is essential to ensure seamless care, shared insights, and ongoing innovation.

You are a strategic and visionary digital leader with a deep understanding of how technology can transform healthcare delivery. You thrive in complex environments and are passionate about driving innovation that improves outcomes for patients, clinicians, and the wider health system. With a strong grasp of digital strategy, cyber security, and operational resilience, you're ready to lead large-scale transformation and enable smarter, more equitable care through digital means.
You're confident working across diverse stakeholder groups - from executive leaders to frontline teams—and you understand the importance of partnership, especially with Māori and iwi, to uphold Te Tiriti principles and Māori data sovereignty.
