**Principal Network Support Engineer**:
**Firstly, a bit about us**
Airways is one of the world’s leading providers of commercial Air Navigation Services, responsible for managing all domestic and international air traffic operating within New Zealand's 30 million square kilometres of airspace.
As a safety critical, high availability, distributed system; air traffic management system engineering is the top of the heap in terms of complexity. There is no down time, system must run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, even during system upgrades.
**About the role**
You will be joining our Network Support team responsible for carrying out required activities and procedures to manage and maintain critical network infrastructure to ensure the ongoing stability and availability of networks across Airways.
You will be a key member of the team and provide specialist network support and technical leadership with a major focus on the implementation and support of network design changes to our operational and international client networks. Day-to-day, this means providing escalated tier 2 support and technical leadership as well as a specialist focus on maintaining ‘business as usual’ requirements for all networks.
**To be successful, you will need to have**:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in a technology related discipline (Diploma or Degree level)
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a network technical leadership role in a complex operational environment
- A safety mindset with being able to effectively assess and communicate risks
- Proven technical skills using various vendor routing, switching platforms
- Expert knowledge of multicast across mixed vendor environments
- Expert knowledge of maintaining and improving alerting to Network Management Systems
- Experience in automation of network operational tasks
- Experience in leading major network incidents through to resolution
- Demonstrated experience with Palo-Alto or FortiGate Firewall management and monitoring
- Experience in the support and implementation of network support systems
- The availability to join the Networks’ on-call roster, after an initial training period
