He angitūtanga | About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team member with excellent people skills to deliver on the Department's National Concession Compliance Strategy. This role is dependent on your effectiveness to engage with stakeholders in the Māwhera /Greymouth and Hokitika districts. You will work alongside permissions holders on public conservation land in the districts, as well as supporting monitoring programmes spanning from the Waitaha River in the south to Maruia River in the north.
**In this role, you will**:
- Lead delivery of the monitoring and compliance programme through frequent visits to holders of permissions such as mining access arrangements and other concessions including grazing, tourism andrecreation.
- Produce written reports, update the database and undertake follow up actions when required.
- Promote conservation, lift awareness, and educate permission holders on the value of the ecosystems in the districts.
- Support other District priorities from time to time.
This is as awesome opportunity for someone that looking to get involved with statutory and/or RMA work where you'll make a key difference in the conservation outcomes in the West Coast This position is fixed-term for 12 months working 40 hours per week, with the potential of this fixed term period to be extended. We provide great flexible working options available upon starting your role with the option to be based in either the Hokitika or Māwhera / Greymouth office.

As our Ranger, Community you will be partnering with a variety of stakeholders and be involved with the community ensuring compliance of concessions.
**We want to hear from you if you have**:
- Previous experience working in a compliance and regulatory environment.
- Experience in working with and partnering with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups.
- Strong data management and technology skills including use of GPS, digital photography, drones & GIS.
- The ability to effectively and positively engage with people involved with land use that often conflicts with conservation management.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a proven ability to write accurate, clear and concise reports.
- A ‘can do' attitude and proven excellent organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have a problem-solving approach.
- Valid full drivers' licence.
- Experience working in the mining industry and/or an ecology background.
- Knowledge of the Western South Island (desirable)

The Ranger, Community position will form part of energetic and hardworking community teams comprised of the Senior Ranger and Rangers in both the Greymouth and Hokitika districts. You will report to either a supervisor in Greymouth or Hokitika, dependant on your preferred office location. You will occasionally work with some contractors and other stakeholders from a variety of groups.
