**Mō Tātou - About Us**
Situated in the sunny eastern coast of New Zealand's North Island, the Bay of Plenty really is just that, offering vast golden sand beaches, bush clad mountains, lush farmlands and more. Its pleasant climate means that the area has become a favourite for holiday makers, retirees and those looking for a different lifestyle outside of the main cities.
Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is spread across a vast geographical area and centred across two hospitals based in Tauranga and Whakatāne. We serve a population of approximately 259,000 for the major population centres of Tauranga, Katikati, Te Puke, Whakatāne, Kawerau and Ōpōtiki. Te Whatu Ora Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty is one of the Bay of Plenty's largest employers with over 4000 staff.
**He Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role**
The Tauranga Hospital Emergency Department (ED) medical specialist team has grown rapidly over the past few years in response to the growth in population and service demand. We are committed to delivering excellent regional emergency medicine care for the people of the Bay of Plenty.
The ED sees a diverse case mix with over 55,000 presentations per annum of which 20% is paediatric. The population of the Western Bay of Plenty continues to grow rapidly with high numbers of older adults who have retired to the Bay alongside growth in industry and commerce which has attracted younger people and families to relocate to the region. Hauora a Toi Bay of Plenty has a Māori population of around 22% with the largest number of Māori living in the Western Bay of Plenty. Our organisation and department are committed to improving Māori health equity and to working with Hauora a Toi Iwi to ensure services meet Te Tiriti expectations and improve health outcomes.
The department is accredited for 12 months ACEM advanced training and has a strong focus on education and development of the emergency medicine, nursing and allied health workforce. We also have an active simulation training programme and established on-site links to the Auckland University regional clinical campus.
