**About the Organisation**
Tearfund is one of New Zealand’s leading NGO’s with development partnerships and programmes throughout the developing world. It is a highly respected charity that inspires people to give, learn, advocate and stand up against injustice. It is supported by New Zealanders and as a development partner with the NZ government.
Over 20,000 donors and hundreds of churches nationwide actively support Tearfund's programmes. Tearfund has a challenging and diverse body of work, including child sponsorship, anti-trafficking and exploitation, disaster risk reduction, relief and recovery, and community development via enterprise and agricultural livelihood projects. They have 40 specialist staff who work mostly from their Mt Roskill, Auckland office to support the growth and effectiveness of these programmes.
**About the role**
As part of the senior management team and leading a diverse and capable team the Chief Operations Officer will provide finance, operational and IT leadership for the organisation. In addition, they will attend the Board and hold responsibility for legal, compliance, risk management and HR. The ability to evaluate market trends as they affect the finances of the organisation, forecast future cost and review revenue stream scenarios from fundraisers is critical. In addition, there are a range of IT projects that are in the pipeline - including a new website and rebrand - which need critical evaluation and project management support. Occasional overseas travel is likely.
**About You**
You will have:
- A people leadership style that is based on empowerment and service oriented
- The ability to provide business analysis of financial and operational information and give strategic forecasting and advice to the CEO and Board
- Strong financial competence with experience leading a finance team. CA qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
- The ability to build strong rapport and communication lines with teams to maintain the confidence of key stakeholders
- The ability to lead staff in the development and delivery of financial, human resource, operational, risk assessment and compliance and IT services
- A tertiary qualification
- The ability to build effective relationships and networks with other NGO's, MFAT, external consultants and international partners as it relates to the role
