We’re on a mission to transform and modernise our digital capabilities. In this role, you’ll join Kiwibank’s Digital & Technology team, working in our API Management space. As a Senior Engineer, you’ll contribute to building and maintaining scalable, secure, performant, and growing API platforms that support our digital products and services.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet business needs, improve developer experience, and enable seamless integration across systems.
- What you’ll be doing day-to-day:_
- Designing, building, and maintaining API platforms and services
- Collaborating with product owners, architects, and developers to deliver high-quality solutions
- Ensuring APIs are secure, standardised, scalable, and well-documented
- Supporting integration efforts across internal and external systems
- Contributing to continuous improvement and automation initiatives
- Collaborating with Kiwibank’s engineering community to maintain API best practices
- Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to strategic technical decisions

- Key skills and experience we’re looking for:_
- Strong experience in API design and development (5+ years commercial experience minimum)
- Knowledge of API gateways, security protocols, and integration patterns
- Experience with cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines
- Ability to work collaboratively in agile teams
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerisation platforms like Kubernetes
- Experience with IaC (Terraform)
- Experience leading technical initiatives or mentoring others
- Bonus:_
- Experience with tools like Apigee, Kong, AWS API Gateway, or Azure API Management
- Familiarity with multiple API patterns like REST and GraphQL
