Mō te tūnga | About the role

New Zealand Police is the lead agency responsible for preventing crime and enhancing community safety. It works in partnership with individuals, communities, businesses, and other public sector agencies towards the vision of making New Zealand the safest country. Police is the government’s largest front-line response agency with around 15,000 staff in large and small communities all over New Zealand and in liaison and policing development roles overseas.

NZ Police Wellness Advisors provide a variety of services including individual assessment interventions and education to minimize the impact of trauma and build resilience.
We are looking to ensure our team reflects a diverse range of culture ,experience and backgrounds so if you are a Registered Social Worker, Nurse or Occupational Therapist or Counsellor with relevant professional body membership, 3-5years experience in mental health and are looking for change and a challenge where no day is the same then we are keen to hear from you.

**The role includes**:

- Provision of psychosocial assessment and brief interventions
- Providing psychological first aid and screening for the impact of trauma
- Completing referrals if needed to NZ Police contracted psychologists
- Providing advice to supervisors on a range of topics related to managing staff wellbeing
- Building resilience and promoting psychological health through education to adults as individuals and groups
- Providing trauma support to areas or workgroups who are experiencing the impact of national emergency events or critical incidents

**You will**:

- Be confident in triage, case management and your mental health assessment skills and knowledge
- Enjoy working with a wide variety of staff and situations ranging from mental health risk assessment to providing psychoeducation to adults/groups
- Be calm under pressure and in situations of ambiguity
- You will have an organised and flexible approach that can accommodate a range of tasks despite unexpected demands
- Be able to work autonomously and still be a team player
- Be self-assured with a relaxed approachable style and a sense of humour that will mean you find it easy to make, build and maintain relationships

**Special Requirements**:

- Professional qualification (Registered Social Work, Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Counselling with Professional body membership)
- Must have current Professional registration and practicing certificate and/or professional body membership where required.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years post grad clinical experience.

**Additional Information**:

- Must reside in the Auckland area
- Full time, 40 hours per week
- NZ Police pays for your annual practicing certificate, an annual allowance for on call, allowances when travelling overnight and monthly external professional supervision
- You will need a full NZ driver’s license. Travel within your District (a vehicle is provided). On occasion travel outside of your District may be required.
- You will need to contribute to the on-call roster and on occasion deploy out of hours.
- An orientation will be provided along with ongoing collegial support.
- Your Team Leader is based in Auckland and your team are dispersed across the Upper North so it is essential that you are comfortable with using technology to join with meetings (or being willing to learn).

This role is set at Individual Contributor level, this means your key purpose is “to deliver or enable others to deliver Our Business”.

We will ask you questions based on “How we will deliver Our Business - Core Competencies” and the appropriate role level, i.e. Individual Contributor.
