Mō te tūnga | About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Kaiāwhina/Allied Health Assistant with a 'can-do'
attitude to join the Haumanu Reo ā-Waha Speech Language Therapy team at
Christchurch Hospital.
This role is within an inpatient setting working
with people who have communication or swallowing difficulties and their
family/whānau. You will work closely
with a team of Speech Language Therapists and be part of a wider
multidisciplinary team. You will bring a strong desire to be part of a
team, an eagerness to be your best and be dedicated to continued learning and
striving for the best patient outcomes.
This role will involve working directly with
patients and their family/whānau, as well as completing tasks that assist in
the delivery of the Speech Language Therapy service, e.g. cleaning nasendoscopes
(used to view the throat to assess swallowing function), creating communication
books. Part of the position also involves assisting the Speech Language
Therapists in the running of the videofluoroscopy clinic (where Speech Language
Therapists use x-ray to assess swallowing function).
This role is Monday-Friday, with a preference for
the hours to be spread evenly over the week.
Applicants who do not hold the New Zealand
Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) Health Assistance Strand from
Careerforce will be required to enrol in this course if successful in being
appointed

**Tasks will include**:

- Carrying out treatment and intervention plans as

delegated by the Speech Language Therapist;
- Maintain documentation, records and accurate
statistical information to reflect care provided and to meet professional
standards, both locally and nationally;
- Cleaning/maintaining equipment and clinical
spaces;
- Checking and maintaining consumables and stock.

**Your skills will include**:

- Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its

relevance to health;
- Strong
communication and interpersonal skills;
- The
ability to work effectively as a supportive and reliable team member;
- The ability to follow direction to assist in the
delivery of treatment and rehabilitation plans;
- Basic computer skills is essential;
- Previous experience in a similar role with a good
