**Tasks you may carry out**: - Inspect and clean surface in preparation for material - Measure area to determine amount of materials needed - Confer with architect or homeowner to determine ideal material and layout. - Correct defects such as a sub-floor that is unlevelled or contains rotted wood - Sweep, scrape, sand, or chip dirt and irregularities from base surfaces, and fill cracks with putty, plaster, or cement grout to form smooth foundation - Cut flooring materials, unroll and install polyethylene film - Fit, install and repair floors using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools - Position the carpet, stretch it to fit, and cut off excess carpet and frays utilizing carpet-laying tools such as carpet shears, knee kickers, wall trimmers, loop pile cutters, heat irons, and power stretchers - Mop up/clear floors and inspect finished product for flaws - Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment **To be successful you will need to**: - Have at least 2 years’ work experience in the same industry/field, or - Have a relevant NZ level 4 qualification or equivalent qualifications/certificates - Be a great team player, be able to follow instructions - Be physically fit and willingness to work hard - Good eye for details and an ability to solve problems practically and effectively - have "can-do" attitude
