Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

Our job is as big as it gets, driving transformation of New Zealand's infrastructure system to ensure we get more value from the assets we already have and that we are well equipped to deliver the new solutions we need as our economy grows. We are focused on improving infrastructure system to help lift Aotearoa's performance and improve the wellbeing for all us.

By transforming the infrastructure system, our goal is to lift New Zealand's economic performance and improve the wellbeing of all kiwis.

Some of our recent work includes developing New Zealand's first infrastructure strategy, building an investment pipeline with $95 billion of projects over the next five years, as well as ground-breaking research into the roots of the housing crisis, the efficiency of our infrastructure sector and reviews of mega-projects.

Despite good progress over recent years there are still significant challenges within New Zealand's infrastructure system. This is why we need you.

**Mo tenei turanga mahi | About this role**

The Private Secretary provides high-level administrative, organisational, and strategic support to the Minister and other office and Parliamentary staff in order to support an effective working relationship between Te Waihanga and the Minister and to support the Minister in carrying out their role.

Reporting to the Manager Ministerial Services, the Private Secretary role requires someone who is able to hit the ground running in terms of their knowledge of the infrastructure portfolio, Parliamentary processes and machinery of Government. You will be able to undertake a significant workload, effectively manage a range of tasks and demonstrate a high degree of professional judgement in recognising degrees of urgency and importance and political nuance. You'll be working alongside other Private Secretaries, supporting our wider connection to the infrastructure system leadership.

You'll bring an excellent understanding of existing government, parliamentary and public service protocols and processes, have experience preparing and facilitating briefings and advice, correspondence, Official Information Act requests and parliamentary questions, and operating at the political interface.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

- Ability to prioritise, multi-task, balance a high workload and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced and stressful environment.

**Mo te tima | About our team**

Te Waihanga is what's called an Autonomous Crown Entity (ACE). We think about the whole infrastructure system - roads, waterpipes, powerlines, you name it - and our job is to give advice and uncover the insights, and promote change to lift infrastructure system performance, supporting an Aotearoa that's great for generations to come.

Our people are smart, generally very experienced and passionate about this stuff. They're friendly and, this being a relatively small organisation, it's easy to work with anyone here and to have an impact. We don't do hierarchy or stand on ceremony.

We also value our people, and it's important to us that you feel welcome, supported, and respected.

**Nga Painga | Benefits**

We offer a competitive total remuneration package for this position depending on skills and experience. We also provide:

- a flexible by default approach to support your work-life balance
