SQL Database Administrator

The demand for our services is growing and we are looking for a talented individual to join our DBA team based in Christchurch, New Zealand. DXC Technology provides database/data engineering services and support to a wide range of customers, both locally and offshore. This role will see you working as part of an experienced and customer driven team, providing project and "business as usual" MS SQL DBA support to customers. We are looking for a self-motivated MS SQL DBA professional with excellent technical leadership, communication, problem solving and analytical skills. This is an excellent opportunity to join DXC Technology and take the next step in your career. **RESPONSIBILITIES**: - Respond to break/fix incident, problem, change, SRs, maintenance activity (e.g patching, version upgrade) within SLAs - Assist with new projects and T&M work - Provides 24x7 (on-call) support as per standby roster - Manage workload and ensure assignments are completed on time and within target completion dates - Keep clients informed at all times as to progress of assigned tasks and setting realistic expectations with regards to completion dates and status updates in a professional, concise and informative manner - Demonstrate ownership and interest in goals by identification, escalation and resolution of issues appropriately - Works with mínimal direction from the technical lead to accomplish assigned tasks - Keeping up to date with new & emerging technologies - Takes ownership of highly complex or critical incidents and problems and provides resolutions in a timely manner. Engages SMEs or vendors to provide assistance to resolve more complex incidents as required. - Provides time / resource estimates for assigned tasks - Provides Knowledge Transfer / Mentoring **SELECTION CRITERIA**: **Essential Skill/Experience Requirements** - Provide support for MS SQL databases including installation/creation, backup/recovery, problem solving and maintenance for Production environments - Provide 24x7 support for Production environments based upon a rotating on-call roster (attractive on-call rates are provided) - Install/Patch MS SQL Server Software - Database Upgrades - Database solutioning - DBMS Monitoring and Tuning - Replication database configuration/support - Cluster database support - Provide expert advice to Customers and Developers on MS SQL Server - Define Technical Solutions for MS SQL Server Database Installations/Upgrades - Produce and maintain logical and physical data models for complex databases and projects - Powershell - PowerCLI - Automation - Scripting - Oracle experience (desirable but not essential) - University or other relevant qualifications (desirable) - Vendor Certifications (desirable) - Experience in database maintenance activities to ensure databases satisfy 24x7 requirements - Knowledge of hardware platform and operating system issues - Strong communication and customer facing skills - Ability to work without supervision - Ability to work effectively in a team and with clients **Other Requirements** - Team spirit (Team Player) - A 'can do' attitude - Methodical and structured approach to tasks and troubleshooting - Maintains high quality supporting documentation - Ability to work in a team and provide a high level of customer service skills - Eager to learn and enhance skills - Ability to resolve issues & handle conflicting priorities in a dynamic environment - Strong communication skills, the ability to interact well in client environment and service excellence - A positive attitude, a passion for IT and a mindset that can adapt easily to change - Ability to multitask and prioritize current and incoming workload - Understanding of ITIL framework If you are a self-starter with a strong customer focus and a results oriented approach complimented by your strong verbal and written communication skills, we would like to hear from you. **PLEASE NOTE: That due to our client requirements applicants must currently be New Zealand Citizens able to gain a Security Clearance** **Trust, Transform & Thrive** with a company whose mission is to leading clients on their digital transformation journeys, DXC Technology will be recognized globally as a force multiplier, enabling clients to seize the opportunities presented by today's rapidly changing technologies
