We are looking for Policy Analysts to progress work focused on lifting Māori wellbeing and development now and in the future.
We are looking for Policy Analysts who can bring:
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and communication skills
- The ability to work with a range of stakeholders both internally and externally
- Some understanding of the machinery of government and Te Tiriti o Waitangi/ Treaty of Waitangi.
**About our Policy Partnerships Puni**
Te Puni Kōkiri is the Principal Policy Advisor to the Government on Māori wellbeing and development. Our Policy Partnerships Puni works at the forefront of policy development across the public sector. The Policy Partnerships Puni:
- leads across the public sector to understand and prioritise Māori issues, needs and opportunities impacting on wellbeing and development
- provides credible, evidence-based advice that is anchored in the Māori cultural context
- designs, applies and advises on te ao Māori and Te Tiriti-based frameworks linking the voice of whānau Māori into policy proposals and solution design.
We are looking to build the existing talent base of our puni, which is located in our National Office in Wellington.
**Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunities**
As a Policy Analyst, you will be responsible for providing high quality analysis and robust research and advice that impacts positively on Māori and contributes to Thriving Whānau. You will produce and influence the development of innovative, cutting-edge policy and you will work collaboratively with your colleagues both within Te Puni Kōkiri and across government, as well as with Māori and key stakeholders.
We have a variety of opportunities at the Policy Analyst level across several different workstreams. The teams with vacancies are as follows:
Culture (1 permanent vacancy):
- This team focusses on supporting the growth of a healthy and vibrant te reo Māori me ōna tikanga with a specific focus on modernising the Māori media and broadcasting sector. Ensuring te reo Māori mē ōna tikanga is vibrant within Aotearoa New Zealand society reflects the way connection to language and culture is integral to the wellbeing of Māori, and that it is a central component of the broader cultural identity and heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Social Policy (1 permanent vacancy and 1 fixed term, 2 year vacancy):
- This team focusses on growing the influence of whānau-centred policy and investment in whānau-ora across government agencies and into communities through the delivery of social services. This includes the resilience and wellbeing of whānau, its members and communities, including tamariki, rangatahi, tāngata whaikaha, and wāhine.
Te Pae Tawhiti (1 permanent vacancy):
- This team focusses on fulfilling the aspirations of the Wai 262 claim, which relates to the protection of mātauranga Māori and its significant potential for economic, cultural and environmental growth. Te Pae Tawhiti's work programme, Te Tumu mō to Pae Tawhiti, includes the development of a _Sui generis_ intellectual property system to protect mātauranga and other taonga; an evaluation framework to measure outcomes related to mātauranga Māori across Govt; the development of a bioprospecting regime that safeguards kaitiaki relationships; and increasing Māori engagement in international instruments and fora. Together these kaupapa will allow for tangible outcomes that will benefit Māori and Aotearoa New Zealand more broadly.
Māori Sector (1 permanent vacancy):
- This team focusses on strengthening the Māori Sector by ensuring mechanisms and arrangements for Māori entities, organisations and institutions are fit for purpose. This includes legislative reform relating to Māori Development.
- The appointment range for these roles are $73,663 - $90,085 per annum._
**Ko wai koe | About You**
We are looking for talented people who have a diverse set of skills, experiences and perspectives. You will be able to get up to speed quickly with new issues and be responsive in delivering your work.
Ideally you will be:
- A critical thinker with analytical rigour who can see things from a range of perspectives
- An excellent communicator with strong writing skills who can use different mediums to engage a range of audiences
- Set apart from the others because of your understanding of Te Ao Māori and Te Reo Māori, and your desire to make a positive tangible difference to Māori
- Strong at finding solutions and taking a 'can-do' attitude
- Effective at working collaboratively with others to develop solutions
- Able to see the big picture yet distil complex issues into clear advice.
