PikPok is Aotearoa New Zealand’s oldest and largest video game developer and publisher. We’re looking for an entry-level programmer who wants to learn about all aspects of the game development process. You should like collaboration and working with others, as well as having foundational knowledge of programming. You should also have a desire to work in games — it’s what you’ll be doing as a job after all We’ll do our part by ensuring you’re working with skilled senior staff to learn how to be a great game programmer.

Programmers write code and support the development of PikPok games and core technology. They fix bugs and solve problems, working collaboratively with colleagues of all disciplines to facilitate creating great game experiences. They are curious about all aspects of game development and proactive in their pursuit of learning opportunities, with a specific focus on growing their craft skills in order to grow towards independence and professional maturity.

**The Programmer’s responsibilities include**:

- Creating, testing, and maintaining code, systems, and tools in support of the development of game projects.
- Working with game development teams as required, being a willing participant in team processes, planning, and technical design.

**Requirements**:
**What we’re looking for**:

- Fluency in C# and/or C++, with knowledge of fundamental programming concepts
- Exposure to software architecture and design principles
- An aptitude for learning new skills and technologies, paired with a desire to expand one’s knowledge base
- The ability to communicate effectively and with confidence
- The ability to talk through problems and collaborate in system design
- A positive ‘can-do’ attitude, great work ethic and strong sense of initiative
- An understanding of (and appreciation for) video games as a creative medium
- Experience working with the Unity game engine is desirable
- Experience with version control is desirable
- Any game development experience, professional or otherwise, is nice to have
- Fluency in English
