Ara Poutama Aotearoa provides psychological assessment and interventions, with an aim to reduce the re-offending risk of people in prison and in the community.
The Auckland District teams provide individual assessments and treatments to a wide range of people who attend Community Probation or are in a Prison setting.
Your role in any of the teams will involve clinical assessments and treatment of people with a wide range of psychological presentation. As the teams work regionally, you will potentially be able to gain experience across the offices as an intern. The skills you will gain in placements include risk assessment, treatment, providing consultation and report writing.

The main areas of focus in the two internship placements being offered are broadly as follow:
Central and Manukau Psychologist's Office
Working across this team provides the opportunity to work in New Zealand's largest female prison at Auckland Region Women's Corrections Facility. The team are engaged in new approaches to help wahine rise above their past, be open to new opportunities, and create a better life for themselves and their whanau. Psychologists in the Manukau team also work across the Korowai Manaaki Youth Justice Facility and across community corrections sites in the ethnically diverse South Auckland area. Working in this team creates opportunities to work with wahine, rangitahi and culturally diverse peoples across Manukau.
This team also works in the heart of Auckland city as well as covering West Auckland. The team works in the country's largest and busiest remand prison at the Mt Eden Corrections Facility. It also provides a broad range of clinical experience through assessment, treatment and case consultation provided within seven community corrections sites in the central and west Auckland areas. Being based on site with our probation colleagues builds positive relationships and promotes clinical leadership for the psychologists in the team. In addition, the team support clients with some of the highest risk and most complex needs who are supported within specialist accommodation.
The salary for this role is $73,428 per annum.
