**Māori Focussed Clinician - CADS Pregnancy & Parental Service**
**Community Alcohol and Drug Services (CADS) is looking for a full-time registered health professional to work in our Pregnancy and Parental Service (PPS) based in Point Chevalier, Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland.**

**Ko wai mātou: Who we are**

CADS is the largest Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) service in Aotearoa/New Zealand and provide free community and inpatient treatment from several locations across Tāmaki Makaurau. CADS are committed to empowering the community to reduce the harm associated with substance use and to promote recovery and wellbeing as well as embedding the principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and working towards equitable health outcomes for Māori.

PPS is a multi-disciplinary regional team which works with pregnant women and parents of children under three years of age who are experiencing problematic alcohol and/or other drug use, are disconnected from health and social services and who may be experiencing multiple and complex problems including family violence, physical and mental health issues, stigma, inadequate housing, and socio-economic issues. Approximately 60% of tangata whai I te ora who are referred to PPS are Māori.

The aim of PPS is to improve outcomes for unborn and young children via interventions that reduce harm and positively impact the young children’s’ first 1000 days of brain development and enhance their future health related trajectories.

Our team is resourced to provide assertive outreach and spend time developing therapeutic relationships with tangata whai I te ora and their whānau to provide evidence-based interventions which strengthen the whānau environment with client led, strength-based goal planning.

**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**

This is primarily a supportive keyworker role, which includes, but is not limited to; assertive outreach, therapeutic engagement, advocacy, biopsychosocial/spiritual assessment and treatment planning, service co-ordination and collaboration, and safety planning. The successful applicant will incorporate Māori health models into their practice, develop relationships with Māori health and social providers and role model and support the service to better serve Māori and address health and wellbeing related disparities. Overarching service principles include harm reduction and strength-based recovery models along with a motivational interviewing informed approach to support tangata whai I te ora to make significant changes in their lives.

You would be working in a well-supported team where you will develop unique expertise and skills to best support tangata whai I te ora experiencing complex issues. This role will be supported to access specific cultural supervision and support.

**He korero mōu: What we are looking for**

We are looking for an experienced registered health professional from a relevant discipline such as but not limited to counselling, nursing, alcohol and other drug counselling, or social work, who is proficient at engaging with Māori and their whanāu, has an equity focus and a commitment to working with tangata whai I te ora who have experienced adversity and are at times reluctant to engage with health and social services. You will have excellent communication skills as well as an ability to work autonomously and within a team.

**You will also have**:

- Previous experience engaging with Māori tangata whai I te ora
- Sound understanding of Māori models of health and wellbeing
- Experience working in a community setting
- Full registration with a health, social or counselling related professional body
- Full drivers licence
- Legal right to work in NZ
- Ability to implement Te Tiriti O Waitangi in your daily work

**Preferred**
- Knowledge of tikanga and Te Ao Māori and willingness to upskill
- Clinical experience in a kaupapa Māori organisation and/or mental health/addiction/child health or maternity setting
- Experience working with health and social service providers such as Family Start, Oranga Tamariki, Kainga Ora as well as other agencies and non-governmental organisations.
