We are looking for a full-time Render Wrangler/Data Manager to join our growing team in Auckland. This role is an exciting opportunity with several career paths options and potential to grow within the company. This entry level role would suit an individual with some industry experience or VFX education. The applicant must have a passion for VFX.
The role includes monitoring and managing projects on the render farm. Highlighting and investigating any technical issues that may arise and ensuring the farm is operational 24/7. You will work closely with Blockheads CG and 2D teams and assist in various support tasks such as file and asset management and job preparation. You will be in charge of archiving projects once complete and monitoring and managing company storage capacity. This role may require some out of hours data support.
**Responsibilities**:
- Monitor and report on render jobs for each show
- Monitor, track and report render resource usage for each project
- Work with Head of Technology to balance multiple shows resource needs within the Company’s physical capacity
- Identify render errors and fix/escalate to the relevant department
- Liaise with lead CG artists regarding possible render optimisation
- Assist with out of hours data operations requests
- Monitor disk/data usage out of hours to ensure availability of disk resources
- Archive projects to LTO once complete
- Work with Producers to Un-Archive previous setups and project assets for upcoming jobs
- Manage and correctly file data from film shoots
- Prepare HDRI for the CG department
- Manage and organise the flow of all media IO traffic including downloading footage from clients and vendors
- Check various CG assets, scenes and setups from outside vendors including tracking & animation
- Assist the CG & 2D departments with IO management and project set up protocols
**Essential Skills**:
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organisational and time management skills with great attention to detail
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic to tackle any task
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks under strict time constraints
- Fundamental understanding of visual effects and computer graphics concepts and terminology
- Some industry experience or VFX education
**Desirable Skills**:
- Familiarity with Linux
- Basic Experience or some knowledge of Maya, Flame, Nuke, Houdini, AfterEffects & Photoshop.
- Python or shell scripting experience
- Familiarity with Linux and Windows networks
- Experience with render software such as Redshift, Arnold, Mantra, Renderman & Deadline
