**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
We have a position available within the Building Policy team at the Policy Advisor level.

The Building Policy team provides regulatory policy advice and identifies and solves problems in the building and construction sector to support the construction of safe, healthy, and durable buildings.

Our current focus is on a series of Building System Reforms. These reforms are taking a comprehensive approach to lifting the performance of the building regulatory system, ensuring building work is done right the first time and providing fairer outcomes if things go wrong. They seek to make much-needed improvements so that building work can be done more efficiently and buildings are safe, healthy and durable.

**This includes**:

- a first-principles review of the building consent system to modernise the system to provide assurance that building work will be ‘done right the first time’,
- improvements to occupational regulation of building practitioners (including engineers, builders, plumbers, electrical workers and architects) and
- improvements to consumer protection measures to ensure consumers are well-informed and are aware of their rights.

**In addition, we have a range of other work underway to**:

- contribute to MBIE's Seismic Work Programme, including to implement the system for managing earthquake-prone buildings and ensure we continue to protect life safety as we learn more about seismic hazard and how buildings perform in seismic events,
- improve the retention money regime to better protect subcontractors in the construction sector and
- contribute to the Government response on the Commerce Commission’s market study to improve competition for building supplies.

We are a young and dynamic team, with a big work programme. Our people are located across the country and we operate a “matrix management” model. This means you will have the opportunity to lead and take ownership of policy projects, and work alongside and learn from a whole range of people with different areas of expertise.

We have a strong focus on development. In Building Policy you can expect to work on the things that you are best at, as well as try new things to broaden your skills. We will provide you with the right support to succeed.

**About our roles**:
Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and experience required:
We are looking for a motivated person with experience in problem solving complex problems and formulating high-quality policy advice for a range of stakeholders and projects.

For the role of Policy Advisor, ideally you will have the following:
